Museum of Kharkiv University

The Museum of Kharkiv University is housed within one of Ukraine's oldest educational institutions and displays photographs, manuscripts, and personal belongings of faculty and graduates. The collection also includes graphic works by Western European artists that were gathered over time.

The university was founded in 1804, and the museum itself was established in 1972 to preserve the institution's legacy. During World War II, the collection suffered severe losses when much of it could not be evacuated to safety.

The university's name honors its founder Vasyl Karazin, whose vision shaped the institution from the start. Visitors can observe how this founding figure influenced academic life and the artistic collections on display.

The location is situated on university grounds and welcomes students, researchers, and visitors. Guided tours help visitors understand the exhibitions and the institution's story more clearly.

Only six percent of the original collection survived World War II, as most items could not be evacuated before the city fell. This small group of surviving objects is particularly valuable and tells the story of the institution's resilience.
