Villa Park, Association football stadium in Birmingham, England
Villa Park is an association football venue in Birmingham, England, serving as home to Aston Villa Football Club and formed by four large stands. The complex stretches between Trinity Road and Witton Lane with a rectangular grass pitch surrounded by continuous rows of seating.
The site opened in 1897 on the former grounds of Aston Hall, where a Victorian amusement park with an aquarium and exhibition hall had previously operated. The stands developed gradually over decades, with major rebuilds after World War II and during the 1990s creating the current appearance.
The ground takes its name from the Villa district that shaped the club and still defines the surrounding area today. Visitors see the claret-and-blue club colours throughout the streets and pubs around the site on match days.
Witton and Aston, two railway stations less than a mile away, provide access to the ground through residential streets that fill heavily on match days. Entrances are located on all four sides, with most visitors arriving early to avoid queues.
A cycling track encircled the pitch before 1914, hosting regular cycling competitions and athletic events alongside football matches. This dual use was common in English grounds at the time and increased the distance between spectators and the grass.
