Brookvale Park Lake, reservoir in Birmingham, West Midlands, England, UK
Brookvale Park Lake is a reservoir in Erdington in northern Birmingham, surrounded by green spaces and walking paths. The water is fed by two small streams and eventually flows into the River Tame.
The reservoir was created at the end of the 19th century as a water supply for Birmingham and initially served as a drinking water source. As the city grew and industrialized, the water became too polluted to drink and was converted instead into a public leisure park.
The park takes its name from a local family, and the surrounding area shows how residents use it in their daily lives. Families regularly visit to walk, watch ducks and swans, or sit on benches by the water.
The park is easily reached by public transport or car, with parking available nearby. The paths are well-maintained and wide, suitable for walking, jogging or cycling, with benches placed throughout for resting.
In 2001, a ring-necked duck was spotted here for the first time in the West Midlands, making it a special birdwatching location. The still water attracts a wide variety of wild birds and offers surprisingly good viewing opportunities in the middle of the city.
