Sevenoaks

Sevenoaks is a market town in Kent, England, that spreads across gentle hills southeast of London. The center combines Georgian brick facades with timber-framed houses and an open square where a food market runs on Saturdays.

William Sevenoke founded a school in 1432 that ranks among the oldest educational institutions in the country. Later in the 15th century, Knole House emerged as a residence for church dignitaries before passing into royal ownership.

The name derives from seven oak trees that once stood here and still shape the town's identity today. Throughout the center, replanted trees mark this centuries-old connection between the place and its botanical emblem.

A direct rail line brings travelers into central London in under an hour. The town center is compact and walkable, with signs leading to key sights and parking areas.

After the 1987 storm toppled six of the symbolic oaks, the community organized a large-scale replanting effort. The young trees now grow at several sites and gradually become part of the urban silhouette.
