Kettering

Kettering is a market town in Northamptonshire, England, stretching along the River Ise and surrounded by fields and industrial estates. The town consists of a historic core with narrow streets, encircled by residential neighbourhoods from different centuries that extend toward the outskirts.

The settlement dates back to Saxon times, as shown by a burial ground with over one hundred cremation urns from the 5th century. During the Middle Ages the place grew into a local trading centre, later expanding through shoe factories and steelworks in the 19th century.

The railway station sits in the town centre and offers direct connections to London in roughly one hour of travel. The town centre is easy to explore on foot, while buses connect the outer neighbourhoods and surrounding villages.

Boughton House, a grand manor belonging to the Dukes of Buccleuch, stands near the town and recalls French châteaux with its towers and gardens. Visitors find there a collection of old furniture and paintings offering glimpses into aristocratic life from past centuries.
