Troon, Seaside town in South Ayrshire, Scotland.
Troon is a port town on the western coast of Ayrshire with wide sandy beaches and views across to the Isle of Arran beyond the Firth of Clyde. The town spreads along the waterfront with an active harbor and a seafront promenade where rocks and sand alternate.
The natural harbor was expanded in 1808 when the Third Duke of Portland added new quays through the Troon Harbour Act. This expansion transformed the place from a small settlement into a working trade port for the region.
The place has long drawn golfers from across the world, with seven courses scattered through the area including the renowned Royal Troon Golf Club. The sport shapes daily life here and remains central to how locals and visitors use the town.
Two train stations link the place to Glasgow and Ayr, while Prestwick International Airport is located to the south. The waterfront promenade is easy to walk along and offers plenty of space for strolling and exploring.
The fish market at the harbor supplies restaurants across the region with fresh catches and keeps alive the maritime trading tradition of the place. Visitors can watch the daily activity of the harbor and see boats coming and going throughout the day.
