Five Wells, Neolithic chambered tomb in Taddington, England
The burial mound stretches 23 meters by 22 meters with two limestone chambers positioned back to back, featuring paved floors and approach passages at both ends.
Thomas Bateman conducted the initial excavation in 1846, discovering remains of twelve human skeletons along with various artifacts within the chambers.
The tomb represents early farming communities from 3400-2400 BC, serving as a communal burial site where multiple individuals were interred over generations.
Visitors can reach the archaeological site by following the Limestone Way footpath, located 500 meters east along Sough Lane from Taddington Moor.
The monument contains two separate chambers with paved floors, including a secondary chamber to the west that holds evidence of ancient burial practices.
