Dolforwyn Castle, Medieval castle ruins on a hilltop in Powys, Wales.
The stone remains include a rectangular keep, circular tower, and northern curtain walls rising up to twenty feet in height.
Llywelyn ap Gruffudd constructed this defensive fortress between 1273 and 1277 for 174 pounds before English forces captured it during a siege.
Archaeological excavations from 1981 to 2002 uncovered artifacts including a leather book cover, silver coins, and stone catapult balls.
The site, managed by Cadw, offers free entry and contains educational panels explaining the medieval structure's historical development through time.
This castle stands as the only native Welsh fortification built entirely under the direction of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, the last Prince of Wales.
