Brimmon Oak, Ancient oak tree in Newtown, Wales.
The Brimmon Oak stands with a trunk circumference of six meters and extends its large branches across the Welsh countryside near the A483 bypass.
Dating from approximately 1500, this oak tree has remained on farmland owned by the same family since the 1600s and served as a gathering spot.
The tree earned the title of Welsh Tree of the Year in 2016 and secured second place in the European Tree of the Year competition in 2017.
A protection zone of 15 meters surrounds the oak tree, which required modifications to the construction plans of the Newtown bypass road.
The preservation campaign for this oak gathered 5,000 signatures, leading to alterations in the bypass construction and setting a precedent for tree conservation.
