Duncarron, Medieval fortified settlement in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Duncarron is a reconstructed medieval settlement in North Lanarkshire spread across 20 acres with multiple wooden structures. These include longhouse and shorthouse replicas plus a lookout tower, all built using period-appropriate construction techniques.
Construction of this medieval reconstruction started in 2004 and finished in 2011, with volunteers installing over 5000 wooden posts for the palisade. The project draws from archaeological knowledge about medieval settlements in this region.
The settlement displays medieval Scottish life through daily craft demonstrations and hands-on activities like archery and blacksmithing. Visitors can experience how people worked and spent their time in those days.
The site is about 40 minutes from Glasgow and open daily from 10 AM to 5:30 PM. Guided tours are available but require advance booking through the website.
The site holds film props from movie productions, including a battering ram from Robin Hood that Russell Crowe donated. Another siege weapon comes from the Netflix series Outlaw King.
