Glenfinnan, Historical monument and railway viaduct in Highland, Scotland
The Glenfinnan settlement stands at the northern end of Loch Shiel, with views extending across the water to the surrounding mountains.
In 1745, Prince Charles Edward Stuart gathered Highland clans at Glenfinnan and raised his standard, initiating the last Jacobite uprising against British rule.
The 18-meter tall Glenfinnan Monument marks the location where Highland clans pledged their loyalty to Prince Charles Edward Stuart during the Jacobite rising.
Visitors can access the Glenfinnan Station Museum, which features restored railway carriages and exhibits about the West Highland Railway's construction.
The concrete Glenfinnan Viaduct spans 416 yards with 21 arches reaching heights of 100 feet, carrying trains across the River Finnan valley.
