Addington Hills, Nature reserve in Shirley, England

The 130-acre hills reach 460 feet above sea level, featuring London's largest heathland area surrounded by woodlands on a gravel bed.

The land, originally named Pripledeane meaning 'Gravel Valley', was acquired by Croydon Board of Health through four purchases over 45 years.

The site hosted significant cricket matches between 1745 and 1752, including a notable game where Addington Cricket Club defeated London.

Visitors can access the park through multiple entrances along Coombe Lane, Shirley Hills Road, and Oaks Road, with dedicated parking facilities.

The northern woodland contains ancient oak pollards, while the heathland supports specialized insects and bees adapted to warm, dry ground conditions.
