The London Borough of Croydon is an administrative district in South London that includes several urban centers such as Coulsdon, Purley, South Norwood, and Thornton Heath. The borough was formed on April 1, 1965, by merging the County Borough of Croydon with Coulsdon and Purley Urban District, which had previously belonged to Surrey. This reorganization brought together several independent communities into a single administrative unit within Greater London.
