Grangewood Park

Grangewood Park is ancient woodland in South Norwood with old oak trees and multiple entry points from different roads. The grounds feature maintained pathways, tennis courts, playgrounds, and sports facilities for visitors to use.

The area was originally part of the Manor of Whitehorse until John Cator purchased it in 1787. Croydon purchased the land in 1900 and opened it to the public.

The park serves as a gathering place where neighbors walk together and families spend time outdoors throughout the year. You will see people using the sports facilities and meeting for informal activities across the grounds.

You can reach the grounds from several roads including Grange Road, Wharncliffe Road, and Ross Road. The nearest train stations are Thornton Heath and Norwood Junction, making walking access straightforward.

Within the grounds stands a Victorian-era bowling green that still operates surrounded by original oak trees from the ancient forest. This combination of a functioning historic sports facility and centuries-old woodland is what sets it apart.
