Llanwenarth House, Grade II* listed country house in Llanfoist Fawr, Wales.
Llanwenarth House is a three-story country house in Wales built with rubble stone walls, slate roofs, and stone chimneys topped with octagonal flues along its gabled facade. The building now operates as a hotel and contains several double bedrooms alongside a Georgian drawing room featuring a working log fireplace.
The house was built in the mid-16th century when Sir Morgan Lloyd, who became the parish rector in 1539, commissioned its construction on this site. Later modifications reused timber elements from the same period, showing how the building evolved through several centuries.
The surrounding hills and landscape near the house influenced Cecil Frances Alexander to write the hymn 'All Things Bright and Beautiful'.
The property sits west of Govilon along the B4246 road and is fairly accessible despite being in a rural location. Visitors should contact ahead to confirm availability since the building functions as a guest accommodation.
The roof structure contains reused oak beams from a 16th-century half-timbered building that most guests overlook when visiting. These salvaged timbers form a quiet link to the site's earlier architecture and demonstrate practical recycling practices of that era.
