Eltham, Historic district in southeast London, United Kingdom
Eltham is a district in southeast London, roughly 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) from the center. The area covers several wards and contains numerous parks linked by walking routes.
The medieval palace was built in the 13th century and served English kings as a residence. Under Edward III, parliamentary sessions took place here before the site declined in importance.
The district maintains a diverse population of 88,000 residents and holds connections to notable figures including Kate Bush, W.G. Grace, and author E. Nesbit.
Several train stations and bus lines connect the area with the center and surrounding neighborhoods. The green spaces offer opportunities for walks between individual parks.
The palace combines a medieval hall with an Art Deco mansion from the 1930s. The estate includes around 19 hectares (47 acres) of gardens and houses London's oldest working bridge.
