London Museum Docklands, Maritime museum in Tower Hamlets, England.
London Museum Docklands sits inside a converted early 19th-century Georgian warehouse and displays collections about the city's trade and port history. The twelve rooms cover themes from Roman docks to modern regeneration of the Docklands.
The museum opened in 2003 inside a protected warehouse building originally completed in 1802. The collection preserves evidence from four centuries of port and river activity along the Thames.
The name Docklands recalls the era when these warehouses received and distributed goods from around the world. Visitors today see objects showing how deeply the port shaped local life and how dock workers, merchants and sailors gathered in this area.
Access is through West India Quay DLR station, which sits right next to the building. All areas are step-free and admission is free, daily from 10:00 to 17:00.
One gallery reconstructs streets from the Victorian port district with life-size replicas of shops, alleys and taverns from the 1840s. Visitors walk through these settings and experience how the neighborhood looked and felt back then.
