University of Brighton, Higher education institution in Brighton, England
The University of Brighton is a higher education institution in the English coastal city of Brighton that occupies multiple locations. Three of these sites are in Brighton itself, while another campus sits in the neighboring town of Eastbourne.
The institution began in 1858 as an art school and went through several mergers with other educational establishments over the decades. Full university status was granted only in the early 1990s.
Students gather in studios and workshops throughout the campuses, particularly around the art facilities where exhibitions of student work line the corridors. The medical school at Falmer brings a clinical atmosphere with its teaching labs and anatomy rooms that shape daily campus life.
The different sites are spread across various neighborhoods, so checking which campus you need beforehand helps avoid confusion. Some buildings are open to the public only during events or by appointment.
A joint medical school with the nearby University of Sussex at Falmer Campus allows shared resources and teaching staff between the two institutions. This collaboration started in the early 2000s and continues today.
