National Botanic Garden of Wales

The National Botanic Garden of Wales is situated in the Welsh countryside and spreads across a large landscape with thousands of plant species. The grounds include different themed garden areas and a striking glasshouse containing plant collections from around the world.

The estate was acquired in the late 1700s by William Paxton, who reshaped the land by creating lakes and ponds. These landscape changes formed the foundation for what eventually became the botanical garden we see today.

The site includes various specialized garden sections to explore, including the main glasshouse featuring plants from warmer climates. The grounds are laid out over a large area, so wearing comfortable shoes and allowing time for walking is advisable.

The main glasshouse is a technical achievement with hundreds of glass panels constructed in a single span. This design allows thousands of plants to be protected and thrive under controlled conditions.
