Llyn Llech Owain, lake
Llyn Llech Owain is a small lake with peat bog and woodland covering about 73 hectares in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The site features natural walking paths, wooden boardwalks crossing the bog, and a visitor center in a tower offering views of the entire area.
The peat bogs around the lake developed over hundreds of years through natural processes and now form a rare habitat. Surrounding woodlands have been gradually reshaped, with coniferous forests being converted into open heathland and broadleaved woodland.
The name comes from Welsh and translates roughly to "Owain's Little Lake". The site reflects how local people use quiet natural places for walking and observing wildlife, connecting with the countryside.
The site has good accessibility with paved paths and ramps for wheelchairs, plus wooden boardwalks over fragile bog areas. Parking, a cafe, and catering facilities are available onsite, making it suitable for families and various mobility levels.
The site is open for filming and photography with no restrictions on drones or cameras, offering filmmakers and photographers a rare natural setting in Britain. The combination of lake, bog, and woodland provides diverse landscape opportunities not commonly found elsewhere.
