Càrn Aosda, Mountain summit in Aberdeenshire, Scotland

Càrn Aosda is a mountain summit in the Cairnwell range reaching 917 meters with two distinct peaks. The eastern peak is marked by light-colored quartzite rock outcrops that make it easy to identify.

The name comes from Scottish Gaelic and means 'Aged Hill,' a reference to the mountain's long-standing presence in the landscape. A former inn once stood at its base, serving travelers for generations.

The peak is part of a significant range in the region that matters to hikers and climbers in Scotland. Many visitors connect their experience here to the wider mountain network around them.

The easiest starting point is the Glenshee Ski Centre car park at 640 meters elevation, which cuts down the ascent distance. The route is clearly marked on the upper sections and relatively straightforward for most hill walkers.

This is one of the few Scottish mountains with multiple ski pistes and visible year-round ski infrastructure including snow fences and tow supports. The presence of this equipment creates a distinctive landscape on the slopes.
