Cardiff Central Library, Public library in Cardiff, United Kingdom.
Cardiff Central Library is a six-floor public library located in the center of Cardiff, Wales. Each floor has an open layout with large windows facing the city, along with reading areas, computer stations, and rooms for meetings or group work.
The building opened in 2009 as a replacement for an older library that could no longer meet the needs of the city. It was part of a broader effort to renew the center of Cardiff in the early 2000s.
The library draws people of all ages who come to read, study, or attend talks and exhibitions on local themes. It functions as a meeting point at the heart of the city, open to everyone without any obligation to borrow or buy.
The library is free to enter and offers Wi-Fi and computer access on every floor. Signs throughout the building are clear and easy to follow, so finding a specific section or service takes very little time.
The building was designed with rainwater collection and energy-saving systems that run largely out of sight but reduce its environmental footprint considerably. This makes it one of the more sustainably designed public buildings in Wales.
