The Golden Cross

The Golden Cross is a Victorian-era pub in Cardiff featuring decorative ceramic tile panels that showcase Cardiff Castle and the local brewery. The building preserves numerous ornamental details from its original period.

The building was first established in 1849 as a tavern and underwent major reconstruction in 1903 when it was developed for Brains Brewery. This rebuilding shaped its current appearance.

The pub serves as a gathering place for Cardiff's LGBTQ+ community, hosting regular drag performances and entertainment throughout the week. Visitors experience a welcoming space where the community actively celebrates and connects.

The pub is located at a street corner in the city centre and is easily accessible on foot. It stays open late on weekends, making it a good spot for evening visits.

The bar counter is one of only a handful of surviving ceramic installations of its kind remaining in Britain. This crafted detail makes it a rare example of Victorian workmanship.
