Bute Park, Public park in Cardiff, United Kingdom
Bute Park is a large green space behind Cardiff Castle with numerous walking paths, three cafes, and a visitor center for information. The grounds contain different areas with varying character, from open meadows to wooded paths.
The grounds belonged to the Bute family until 1947, when the 5th Marquess of Bute donated them to Cardiff Council for public use. This gift transformed a private family estate into a public recreation space for the city.
The Gorsedd Stone Circle reflects Welsh traditions and marks the connection to the National Eisteddfod, a major cultural festival. Visitors can experience here the local identity and significance of these Welsh celebrations.
The grounds open daily from 7:30 AM and close 30 minutes before sunset. There are three entrances from North Road, Castle Street, and Corbett Road, allowing visitors flexible access to the park.
The arboretum holds over 3,000 catalogued trees, including specimens that rank among the largest of their species in the British Isles. This collection makes the park a noteworthy place for tree and nature enthusiasts.
