Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, Parliamentary constituency in Highland, Scotland, UK, 2005 onwards
Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey was a House of Commons constituency from 2005 to 2024, covering a large section of the Scottish Highlands with the city of Inverness at its center alongside rural areas and small coastal towns. The territory stretches across mountains, forests, and open countryside with scattered villages and the coastal town of Nairn on the shore.
The constituency was created in 2005 by combining parts of two earlier constituencies and existed until boundary changes in 2024. The region has a long history tied to Highland clans, historic fortresses, and Culloden Battlefield, where the final major Jacobite rising was defeated in 1746.
The name comes from four main areas: the city of Inverness, the coastal town of Nairn, and the rural regions of Badenoch and Strathspey in the hills. Throughout the year, locals gather for Highland games, festivals, and music events that keep traditional customs alive and bring the community together.
The region is served by bus connections linking towns to larger centers, and many people use bicycles or walk for local travel. Plan extra time to explore since settlements are spread across hillside and countryside with considerable distances between them.
The constituency stood for nearly two decades but underwent major boundary redistribution in 2024. Parts were reassigned to a new constituency called Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire, marking a significant shift in how the region's representation was organized.
