The Langdale axe industry is the name given to a prehistoric flintknapping complex, datable to the Neolithic period, at Great Langdale in England's Lake District.
The industry produced some of the finest stone axes ever made in prehistory which have been found all over Britain and Europe.
The axes from the Langdale industry were traded across Britain and even reached Ireland.
The rough-outs were made locally near the quarries, and some were polished to give them a fine finish.
Langdale axes are distinctive in that they have a unique 'hourglass' shape.
