Parson's Lodge Battery, Military fort in Rosia Bay, Gibraltar
The limestone fortification stands at the entrance of Gibraltar Bay, featuring thick walls and strategic gun emplacements for territorial defense operations.
Constructed in the 18th century and named after a nearby church parson, the battery received eight defensive guns in 1842 following military recommendations.
The Gibraltar Heritage Trust manages the site, preserving the military architecture that reflects British defensive strategies through multiple centuries.
Visitors need appropriate footwear to explore the battery complex, which includes underground passages, gun positions, and military installations across different levels.
The battery contains Gibraltar Shields made of iron plates around teak planks, specifically engineered to protect artillery from incoming enemy fire.
