Victualling Yard, Military supply facility in Gibraltar, United Kingdom.
Victualling Yard is a military supply complex located at Rosia Bay that provided provisions for Royal Navy vessels. The site contains storage buildings and berthing facilities where ships once loaded food, water, and essential supplies for their operations.
The complex was established in 1799 after Admiral John Jervis recommended moving the Royal Navy supply depot to Rosia Bay for better protection. Military operations at the facility ended in the 1980s as naval supply requirements changed.
The entrance of the Victualling Yard remains registered with the Gibraltar Heritage Trust as a testament to British naval infrastructure.
The site is best viewed from the water or from surrounding heights, as direct access to the grounds is limited. Since this is a historic military location, visitors should be aware that certain areas may be restricted.
Below ground lay water storage tanks designed and built by Giovanni Maria Boschetti starting in 1804. These reservoirs supplied fresh water to ships for over two centuries before being removed in the early 2000s.
