Abbot House, Dunfermline, Heritage museum in Dunfermline, Scotland.
Abbot House is a three-story pink-painted building located next to Dunfermline Abbey in Scotland. The adjacent walled garden surrounds the structure, and a small Z-plan tower from the 16th century is integrated into the building's layout.
The building was constructed in the 16th century against an existing monastery wall. This location created a strong connection to the adjacent abbey and its religious function.
The building displays its medieval heritage through original features such as a wall fresco from 1571 and a 14th-century tracery window. These elements allow visitors to see the handcrafted skill of Scottish artisans from that era.
The ground floor has a gift shop selling local artisan products, while the upper floors serve as studios for regional artists. The walled garden allows visitors to walk around the building in a pleasant outdoor setting.
Excavations in the garden between 1988 and 1994 uncovered medieval finds such as pottery, costume fittings, and early Scottish coins. These discoveries provide insight into the daily life of people who once lived in this area.
