Aldenham Reservoir, lake in the United Kingdom
Aldenham Reservoir is a large body of water located near Elstree and Borehamwood in Hertfordshire. A walking path circles the entire reservoir, offering views of the open water, grassy banks, and wooded areas nearby.
The reservoir was constructed between 1795 and 1797 to regulate water flow near the Grand Junction Canal. French prisoners of war assisted in the hand-dug excavation during its creation.
The path around the reservoir is easy to follow and suitable for all ages, including families with strollers. Bring water and snacks with you since there are no shops or cafes nearby.
The reservoir sits along the London Loop, a walking route that extends for miles through the countryside at London's edge. This connection makes it a natural stop for hikers exploring the area's green spaces and connecting to other local paths.
