Ashleys Copse, Iron Age hillfort in Hampshire and Wiltshire, England.

Ashleys Copse is an Iron Age fortification straddling the Hampshire and Wiltshire border with preserved earthwork defenses. The site rises between 155 and 160 meters above sea level, with woodland covering part of its surface and the eastern spur showing the defensive structures most clearly.

The fortification was built during the Iron Age more than two thousand years ago in a location that controlled the border between two counties. The earthworks that remain today are direct remnants of this early defensive construction.

The fortification's layout shows how Iron Age people organized their community and chose defensible ground. The earthworks reflect how they adapted their settlement to work with the natural landscape.

The site lies about eight kilometers northeast of Salisbury and is accessible on foot with sturdy footwear recommended. The woodland cover means some areas stay damp year-round, so visiting during drier months makes the walk more comfortable.

The northern and eastern flanks feature steep contours that functioned as natural defenses alongside the built earthworks. This combination of human-made and natural barriers made the position exceptionally difficult to attack.
