Ashness Bridge, Stone road bridge in Borrowdale, England
The Grade II listed Ashness Bridge spans across a stream on a single-track road connecting the Borrowdale road B5289 to Watendlath in Cumbria.
Built during the Georgian period in the 18th century, Ashness Bridge initially served as a crossing point for packhorses transporting goods between Watendlath and Keswick.
The bridge stands as a representation of traditional Cumbrian stone construction methods, with its 19th-century parapet addition reflecting architectural adaptations through time.
Visitors can access the bridge by following walking paths from the Great Wood car park, which offers multiple routes through the surrounding National Trust lands.
The location provides unobstructed views of Derwent Water and Skiddaw mountain, making it a frequent subject for Lake District photography and artworks.
