Ashton Court, Manor house and estate in Long Ashton, England
Ashton Court is an estate in Long Ashton, England, spanning 344 hectares and combining woodlands, grasslands and a protected manor house. The rooms of the house show elements from the 15th to 19th centuries, while the parkland with old trees and open meadows invites walking.
The estate began in the 11th century when William the Conqueror granted the land to a Norman bishop. The Smyth family acquired it in the 16th century and rebuilt the house repeatedly over the next 400 years.
The name comes from the medieval holding that once centered around a manor court. Visitors today see traces of different centuries in the facades and gardens, which changed with each generation.
The park opens every morning at 8 AM and closes depending on the season between 5:15 PM in winter and 9:15 PM in summer. Three car parks provide access to different areas of the wide grounds.
Fifteen old ponds scatter across the grounds, some laid out centuries ago. The parkland also offers two golf courses, a disc golf course and marked trails for mountain bikes.
