Ardgowan Castle, Tower house in Inverclyde, Scotland.

The stone fortification stands on a coastal promontory, rising 60 feet above the flats with steep slopes on each side of the point.

The castle served as a stronghold during the Scottish Wars of Independence, enduring sieges by forces including those of Robert the Bruce in 1303.

The structure represents medieval Scottish defensive architecture, built within the remains of an earlier fortress that protected against Viking raids.

While the castle remains inaccessible inside private gardens, visitors can view the three-story ruin from a public path running directly below.

The castle's position on the Firth of Clyde made it a strategic maritime control point, leading to numerous naval escapes during military conflicts.
