Banchory Ternan East Church, Presbyterian church in Banchory, Scotland
Banchory Ternan East Church is a 19th-century stone building with a four-story tower, entrance porch, gallery, belfry, and clock stage, finished with a castellated parapet. The structure sits on Station Road and retains its original form.
The current building was constructed in 1825 by architect John Smith and replaced an earlier church from 1775, reusing stones from the previous structure. This reconstruction occurred during a period of modernization in church architecture.
The church displays Georgian Gothic windows throughout its interior and features four original iron pillars that support the rear gallery. These elements shape how the space looks and feels to visitors today.
The building sits on Station Road in central Banchory and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should note that regular services take place and the church remains active in community life.
A bell from an even older church dating to the 1660s now sits in an old watchtower within the cemetery grounds. This links the site to an even earlier period of religious history.
