Tilquhillie Castle

Tilquhillie Castle is a four-story tower house with a vaulted basement and rounded corners that transition into stepped gables. The Z-shaped layout combines defensive elements with residential spaces designed for inhabitation.

The tower house was built in 1576 on lands that belonged to Arbroath Abbey. It remained occupied until 1948, when restoration efforts eventually brought it back to good condition in 1993.

The name reflects its historical ties to nearby Arbroath Abbey lands. The building itself shows how people organized their living spaces, with separate sections of the structure designed to serve different purposes in daily life.
