Barafundle Bay, Sandy beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales.
Barafundle Bay is a beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales, set between limestone cliffs and framed by pine trees that grow close to the dunes. The sand curves around a sheltered cove with gentle waves and clear water, creating a compact shoreline backed by coastal vegetation.
The Cawdor family of Stackpole Court built stone steps and walls to reach their private beach during their ownership. The bay remained secluded for generations before opening to visitors in later years.
Welsh band Gorky's Zygotic Mynci named their fourth album 'Barafundle' in 1997, connecting this location to Welsh musical heritage.
Access requires a half-mile walk from Stackpole Quay car park, as the cove cannot be reached directly by vehicle. There are no facilities on the beach itself, while toilets and a small shop are available at the quay.
The geological boundary between Devonian red sandstone and carboniferous limestone runs through this shoreline. Visitors can spot the contrasting rock formations on opposite sides of the cove.
