The Burning of Parliament was a devastating fire that destroyed much of the Palace of Westminster.
On the night of October 16, 1834, the fire broke out and raged for hours, consuming many government buildings.
This event has been depicted in numerous works of art, including paintings by J.M.W. Turner.
The current Houses of Parliament and Big Ben were constructed following this great fire.
Pieces of molten metal from the fire were later used to create the Victoria Cross medals.
