Bilston Craft Gallery, Museum and public library in Bilston, England
Bilston Craft Gallery sits in a two-story stone building with curved bay windows and stained glass details at Mount Pleasant. Inside it houses both an art gallery and a public library under one roof.
The building was constructed in 1905 as a private residence for a lock-making family and later served different purposes. In 1937, Bilston Borough Council converted it into a public gallery and library.
The gallery displays works by local craftspeople alongside historical enamels from the area, giving visitors a sense of traditional skill-making techniques. You can see how craft was practiced in the past and continues today.
The place opens Tuesday through Friday from 10 to 17 o'clock, with later hours until 19 o'clock on Wednesday. Saturday visits are possible but with shorter afternoon hours.
The cellars beneath the building served as an air raid shelter during World War II, accessible through hidden trap doors under the front steps. These rooms show how the place played a role in protecting the community during bombing raids.
