Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School, Secondary school and Grade II listed building in Beddau, Wales.
Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School is a secondary school in Llantrisant, Wales, set on a large campus along Penycoedcae Road. The site combines a Grade II listed building from the 1920s with newer blocks that house classrooms, sports facilities, and creative studios.
The original building opened in 1928 as a school for girls, designed by the local county architect. It later became a mixed secondary school and expanded steadily over the following decades, with a major renewal project recently adding new facilities to the campus.
The name Bryn Celynnog comes from Welsh and refers to the hill of holly trees where the school stands. The older building from the 1920s is now a Grade II listed structure, meaning its exterior character must be kept as it is.
The campus sits along Penycoedcae Road on the edge of Llantrisant and is most easily reached by car or local bus. As the grounds are spread over a large area, it is worth getting your bearings before walking between the different parts of the site.
Although the 1920s building is protected for its architectural value, the school also has one of the newer fitness and dance facilities built as part of a region-wide improvement programme for schools around Pontypridd. The contrast between the old stone front and the modern rear blocks is immediately visible when walking through the campus.
