Chesapeake Mill, Water mill in Wickham, England
The Chesapeake Mill stands by the River Meon with its stone foundation, large wooden beams, and traditional milling equipment spread across multiple floors.
Built in 1820, the mill incorporates wooden elements from the captured USS Chesapeake warship, which the HMS Shannon seized during the War of 1812.
The mill functions as a cultural center where visitors discover maritime history through exhibitions displaying artifacts from both British and American naval heritage.
The building now operates as an antique store and gift shop, offering visitors the opportunity to examine the preserved internal mechanisms of the mill.
The wooden beams throughout the structure retain visible marks from American ship carpenters and damage sustained during naval combat in 1813.
