Brook Green, Residential neighborhood and park in Hammersmith, England
Brook Green is a residential neighborhood in Hammersmith with a central green space surrounded by Victorian townhouses and larger residential blocks. This green area stretches between two main roads and forms the heart of the district.
The name appeared first in records from 1493 when the area was a small hamlet. Later, industry transformed it as factories like the Osram Lamp Factory and J. Lyons facilities moved in and shaped the neighborhood for many decades.
The area has long attracted people interested in education and the arts. St Paul's Girls' School shaped the neighborhood and drew figures like composer Gustav Holst, who worked there as director of music.
The area connects well to London's underground rail network with several lines accessible nearby and good connections throughout the city. Many independent shops, cafes and a major shopping center close by make it easy to find what you need.
Every November an annual Books Festival takes place here, drawing writers and readers from across the city. This yearly gathering brings the neighborhood together through a shared love of literature.
