The Fortescue family acquired the estate in the 15th century, and Hugh Fortescue commissioned the mansion's construction in Portland stone during 1728.
The Grade II listed building includes circular libraries, Greek temples, and architectural elements that represent 18th-century English country house design.
The gardens welcome visitors Monday through Friday from 11:00 to 16:00, with admission fees of £8 for adults and £4 for children.
A decorative fortification from 1746 sits atop the northern hill behind the main house, functioning previously as a banqueting hall.
