The construction of the church began in 1835 and concluded in 1837, with a total cost of £3,600 and an initial seating capacity of 830 people.
The church maintains a regular schedule of religious services and hosts community gatherings that connect local residents throughout the calendar year.
The building features a pipe organ installed by Bryceson Brothers in 1890, replacing the original instrument that accompanied the church opening in 1837.
This religious structure represents the only remaining architectural work by British designer Robert Gunter Wetten, who lived from 1804 to 1868.
