Victoria Recreation Ground

This recreation ground contains tennis courts, a cricket pitch, a sports hall, and walking paths laid out across spacious open grounds. The layout allows different sporting activities and community use to happen side by side.

The grounds were gifted in 1897 to honor Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and opened by Princess Henry of Battenberg in 1902. This royal connection established the site as an important public space for Newport.

Cricket matches took place here during the 1930s and shaped this as a key sports hub for the region. The grounds remain a gathering point where locals enjoy recreational activities throughout the year.

A merger of several local clubs created the Newport Victoria Sports and Social Club in 1983, bringing significant improvements to the facilities. This union reflected how different community groups came together to strengthen the site.
