Clegg Hall, English country house in Littleborough, England
The stone construction of Clegg Hall features multiple outbuildings, including barns, stables, gardens, and fishponds, reflecting the architectural style of the 17th century.
Theophilus Ashton commissioned the construction of Clegg Hall in 1610, building upon the site of earlier halls occupied by the Clegg family since medieval times.
The first mention of the Clegg family appears in the Domesday Book during King Stephen's reign from 1135 to 1154, establishing deep roots in the area.
The hall received Grade II* listed building status on August 9, 1951, which ensures protection and maintenance of its architectural and historical elements.
Between 1818 and 1869, the hall served as a public house named Horse and Hounds before a fire in the 1950s caused substantial damage to the structure.
