Chartwell Court, Residential tower in central Brighton, England
Chartwell Court is an 18-story residential building standing 66 meters tall in central Brighton. The structure contains housing units with views toward the English Channel and South Downs, built directly above a parking facility beneath Churchill Square.
Architect Richard Seifert designed this concrete building in 1967 during a period of urban expansion in post-war Brighton. The project was part of broader efforts to modernize the city during that decade.
The tower marks a shift away from Brighton's traditional Georgian and Victorian buildings, bringing modernist design to the coastal city. This departure from classic styles remains visible in the cityscape and shows how the place changed during the post-war period.
The location above Churchill Square provides easy access to shops and transportation connections in this central area. Visitors should note this is a private residential building with no public access to the interior spaces.
The building is Brighton's second tallest and uses an innovative foundation design that connects with the parking garage below. This technical integration made it possible to build a tall structure above an already-used underground space.
