Crag Hill, Mountain summit in Lake District, England.
Crag Hill is a summit in the Lake District that rises to 839 meters with rocky slopes forming an east-west ridge. The mountain sits within the North Western Fells and connects to several neighboring peaks across its elevated spine.
The mountain was once called Eel Crag, a name now reserved for the northern crags section specifically. This shift in naming reflects how the peak became recognized as distinct from its dramatic northern rock faces.
The National Trust maintains ownership of Crag Hill, integrating it into the Buttermere Fells Site of Special Scientific Interest for environmental protection.
Several walking routes lead to the summit, with paths starting from Crummock Water via Rannerdale Beck and from Braithwaite via Coledale Hause. Each route offers different terrain and duration depending on where you start and your hiking experience.
The mountain forms a cross-shaped configuration with ridges extending in four cardinal directions. This unusual layout connects it with neighboring summits including Grasmoor, Sail, Scar Crags, and Causey Pike.
