Cofton Park, Public park in south Birmingham, England
Cofton Park is a large public park in south Birmingham covering rolling terrain with open grassland and mature trees. The grounds feature numerous oak and ash trees scattered across slopes, creating shaded areas throughout the space.
The park was acquired by Birmingham City Council in 1933, ensuring its preservation for public use. It had previously been held as private land under the ownership of William Walter Hinde's estate.
In September 2010, Pope Benedict XVI celebrated a mass at Cofton Park attended by 51,626 people during Cardinal Newman's canonization ceremony.
The park can be accessed from four different directions via Lowhill Lane, Lickey Road, Elliot Gardens, or Ten Ashes Lane. Parking facilities are available at multiple entry points, making it easy to arrive by car.
The grounds house Birmingham's municipal plant nursery, which grows bedding plants and seasonal displays for parks across the city. This operational nursery is not typically open to visitors but shapes the horticultural care visible throughout the space.
