College of All Saints, Maidstone
College of All Saints, Maidstone, Medieval ecclesiastical college in Maidstone, England
The College of All Saints is a medieval ecclesiastical institution in Maidstone situated between the Archbishop's Palace and the Church of All Saints. Its buildings feature a battlemented tower and were constructed using rough stone.
The college was founded in 1395 by Archbishop William Courtenay and received donations from King Richard II. It closed in 1546 following the Chantries Act.
The gateway shows medieval building styles typical of religious institutions in Kent, revealing how such places were organized and presented at that time.
The site is easy to access and the remaining buildings are protected as Grade I listed structures by Maidstone Borough Council. Visitors can view the complex from outside and take advantage of its proximity to other significant buildings in the area.
At the time of its closure, the college maintained an annual income that reflected substantial wealth for a medieval religious institution. This prosperity level reveals how financially successful such places could become during that period.
